Transmission Diagnosis & Repair in Ormond Beach

A transmission that slips, bangs into gear, or locks itself in one gear feels like the end of the car. Often it isn't. The answer is often a precise repair, not a whole transmission. The first job is to find out which problem you actually have — before anyone sells you one.

A precise repair, or a failed unit? Testing decides

  • Diagnosis first.

A full scan of the transmission control module, live data, a road test when it is safe, and fluid condition and level checked the way the manufacturer specifies. You get the finding in writing before any repair is discussed.

  • Targeted internal repairs — done here.

Mercedes-Benz valve bodies, conductor plates and electrical connectors, and similar targeted repairs on European automatics where testing supports them. On Mercedes-Benz and Sprinter automatics, a failed conductor plate (the electronic plate inside the transmission that carries the speed sensors) is one of the most common reasons for limp mode. We remove the valve body, replace the plate and connector, service the transmission, and road test.

  • A remanufactured unit when the transmission has actually failed.

When testing shows the complete unit is done, we install a remanufactured transmission — on European, Japanese and domestic vehicles.

  • Scheduled transmission services.

Mercedes 5-, 7- and 9-speed services, Porsche PDK, and VW/Audi DSG services, done to the factory procedure with the correct fluid.

  • Knowing the difference is the job.

A repairable internal fault and a genuinely failed transmission can feel identical from the driver's seat. Testing tells them apart. When it is a fault we repair in house, we repair it. When the whole unit has failed, we install a remanufactured transmission rather than rebuilding yours clutch pack by clutch pack on our bench — we don't do full rebuilds, and you'll know which situation you're in before any repair is authorized.

What testing looks like on a real car

A 2008 Sprinter 2500 limped into the shop stuck between first and second gear. The scan pointed to the speed sensors inside the transmission — not to the transmission itself. Read the case file: Sprinter stuck in limp mode — what testing found.

Your vehicle health report — like a checkup from your doctor

Every vehicle that comes through our shop gets a digital vehicle health report, every visit. Photos of what we found, plain-English notes on what they mean, and each item labeled honestly: what needs attention now, what can wait, and what's just worth watching. You review it right on your phone.

You approve the work — and every dollar — before it begins, and nothing gets added without your authorization.

FAQ

Do I need a new transmission?

Not until testing says so. Many limp-mode and harsh-shift complaints on Mercedes-Benz and Sprinter automatics trace to the conductor plate, the valve body, the fluid, or a sensor — not the whole unit. Sometimes the unit has failed; then we'll show you why we believe that.

Do you rebuild transmissions?

We don't do complete bench rebuilds. What we do is the step most cars need first: test the transmission and find out whether the fault is a targeted internal repair — a valve body, a conductor plate, a connector, a fluid service done correctly — or a unit that has truly failed. The first kind we repair in house. For the second we install a remanufactured transmission, on any make.

What will it cost?

We don't quote repairs sight-unseen — a number given before anyone has inspected the car is a guess. Your vehicle health report gives you an exact, itemized picture, and you approve every dollar before work begins.

Can I wait, or should I drop off?

Either. We have a waiting area, drop-off with a key drop, and a local shuttle. You can approve work by text and pay by text. Vehicle pickup and delivery may be available by advance arrangement — ask your advisor.
